Alexander Kireria, is an internationally recognized health Economist, environmental and climate change expert, with over 28 years’ experience providing consultancies, research, technical assistance (TA) and capacity building support covering more than 27 countries mainly in Sub-Sahara Africa. His specific expertise and experience are in sectors of health, economics, finance, environment and climate change among other areas. During his over two decades of consulting, Alexander Kireria, has provided technical and capacity building support to the Governments, donors, international partners, civil society organizations and community systems. Some notable clients include but limited to, United Nations agencies, WHO, the Global Fund, GAVI, USAIDS, World Bank, AFDB etc.

  • 1977: M.A. Econometrics and Economic Research Analysis, University of Nairobi, Kenya.

    Summary of key project assignments
  • Conducted over 20 EIA/EAs in various sectors including transport, agriculture, water, biodiversity, WASH, agriculture and energy etc;
  • 2009-2012: Global Fund’s Permanent Member of Technical Review Panel (TRP);
  • TA to design and develop various climate change policies, legislation, guidelines, national strategies and Action plans for climate change adaptation, mitigation, resilience and financing mechanism.
  • Review and updating Environmental Management and Coordination Act (EMCA 1999), regulations, environmental Chapter of Vision 2030, Kenya Climate Change policy and development and training on several materials on Carbon footprints assessments, valuation and CO2 credit trading etc.
  • Provided TA and capacity support for the Climate Change Action Plan both public and private sector to maximize the impact of climate change including finance and capacity towards Kenya’s meet its CDM target of reduction of CO2 emissions of 32% by 2030 (through improved adaptation, mitigation, resilience and financing in in line with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) guidelines and targets.
